PCC Cultural & Life Enrichment Program

Designed to promote personal growth and self-enrichment. This may include courses in leisure activities, non-vocational skill development, learning a new language, discovering a new talent, arts & crafts, media techniques, wellness activities, and much more, as well as musical and theatrical productions. These classes are self-supporting and use the talents and skills of some of our community’s gifted residents.

Quilting Basics

Join us to learn or enhance your quilting desires! The course will review binding and the “stitch and flip”, as well as provide instructions on using 6.5” blocks and paper piecing Courthouse Steps. We will do some new projects that include the “Christmas Mitten” or you can work on one of your own in class! Materials needed: sewing machine, cutting mat, straight edge, roller cutter, pins, and this time, an iron. Instructor: Rolayne Schwendy

Fall Bird Watching

The first class will meet in the Delamar Building at 9 a.m. for a slide show, and discussion of birding optics and techniques with a short field trip afterward. Subsequent classes will be held in the field with early morning meeting times.

Women and Girls Empowerment Self-Defense Course

This course provides strategies to increase safety by increasing awareness and personal presence, learning to assess dangerous situations, and using appropriate intervention strategies that fit the situation. This class will involve the practice of physical techniques that anyone can learn, regardless of your physical skills or abilities. Please wear comfortable clothes that allow you to move freely. For females ages 16+. Instructor: Darla Bolon (Certified Self-Defense Instructor with the American Women’s Self-Defense Association and the National Women’s Martial Arts Federation)

Astronomy: Viewing the Fabulous

The goal of this class is to enjoy the knowledge of WHATS UP above us. We see it every night. This was the “late night show” of the ancients. And now is ours too!  Let’s make sense of what we see every night above us. This class is presented by a former Planetarium program producer and presenter who loves turning people on to the night sky. This will include a classroom and some evening sky and telescope observation. So, keep looking up and join us for a 6-part class!

Traditional Ceramic Program

Each student will learn the use of assorted ceramic tools and complete four projects using various ceramic finishes. Both beginners and experienced individuals are welcome. The class is held in the instructor’s studio. Instructor: Barbara Drexler
