Cardiac Monitor Technician

The comprehensive Cardiac Monitor Technician Certification Course prepares students to function as Cardiac Monitor Technicians in the acute healthcare setting. This course will include fundamental information on the anatomy and physiology of the heart and cardiovascular system, medical disease processes, medical terminology, ethics, and communication with the healthcare team as well as intensive ECG monitor strip interpretations. Additionally, students will spend 40 hours participating in the clinical environment working with Cardiac Monitor Technicians.

Upon completion of the course, you will receive a certificate of completion and are encouraged to apply for a National Certification Exam of your choosing.

Community Health Worker

This course is designed to provide individuals with the required knowledge, tools, and resources to become recognized as a certified Community Health Worker (CHW) in North Carolina working in a variety of healthcare and community settings (e.g., health departments, hospitals, clinics, etc.). Instruction is designed to cover the nine core competencies essential to working as a certified CHW, which include communication, capacity building, service coordination, interpersonal, advocacy, outreach, and personal/professional skills. The course will also focus on health and social issues that disproportionately impact clients [e.g., chronic diseases], as well as safety, emergency preparedness, social isolation, and adverse childhood experiences (ACES). Students will also learn to connect their clients to appropriate resources. Upon completion of this training, students will be eligible for listing as a NC Certified Community Health Worker.

Medication Aide

This comprehensive 24-hour course prepares the Certified Nursing Assistant actively listed on the Nurse Aide I Registry to competently administer medications in long-term care. This course provides an opportunity for career enhancement for Nurse Aides who are interested in working in skilled facilities as a Medication Aide. It is designed to meet training requirements for the North Carolina Board of Nursing Medication Aide Certification. Course topics include the scope of duties to include the 5 RIGHTS, legal and ethical responsibilities, administration of medications by various routes, infection control, and documentation including commonly used abbreviations.

Upon satisfactory completion of the course, you will receive a certificate and are then eligible to take the NC State Competency Exam administered under the NC Division of Health Services Regulation. An additional cost of $59 for the NC State Competency Exam is required.

Certificate Program

The focus of the Medical Administrative Assistant program is to prepare students for employment in a variety of medical office settings. Through the program, students gain knowledge of medical terminology, and general medical office procedures and acquire the skills necessary to deliver effective customer service and perform important administrative duties. Nurse Aide I

Our classes offer hands-on clinical experience to better prepare one to work as a professional Nursing Assistant providing personal care and basic nursing skills for the disabled and elderly in hospitals, long-term care, assisted living facilities, and home care. Classroom, skill/competency evaluation as well as clinical hours must be completed successfully. This course is designed to provide a review of the Nurse Aide I core content to prepare individuals who have been or are currently listed on a Nurse Aide I Registry, have successfully completed a state-approved training program, hold a state recognized health care credential from any state as or military personnel who have had medical/corpsman training to sit for the Nurse Aide I State Exam. The course must include the following Nurse Aide I curriculum content: Basic Nursing Skills, Personal Care Skills, Recognition of Mental Health and Social Service Needs, Care of Cognitively Impaired Residents, Basic Restorative Services and Resident Rights. The course is designed to provide entry-level education and training to perform routine physical therapy technician tasks. The class will cover an overview of the physical therapy profession, the role of the physical therapy technician and associated career opportunities. Certified Dietary Manager

This course includes a series of four segments that comprise the dietary manager training required for certification by the National Dietary Managers Association. After successful completion of all four segments, students may sit for a national exam to become certified dietary managers. Nutrition in the Life Cycle focuses on basic food groups, vitamins, minerals, energy nutrients, and metabolism. Therapeutic Nutrition includes diet modifications in response to illness, disease, growth and development, or old age. Food Systems Management includes safety, sanitation, accident prevention, menu planning, and food preparation. Personnel and Administration includes professional roles, responsibilities, personnel management, and problem-solving.
